Supporting Homes England to embed inclusive design through the intersectional of research, engagement and practical guidance.
As part of their five-year strategic plan, Homes England required consultants to assist in drafting several design guidance and best practice documents to achieve design outcomes around inclusive, functional and accessible homes and places.
Using an intersectional lens to guide the inquiry process, Human Space identified groups that will be covered in the guidance and ensured a holistic approach to engagement. By facilitating a meaningful, respectful and accessible engagement process, we developed a matrix of policy and design proposals that can be used to cross-reference and identify any potential conflicts.
By applying an intersectional lens in gathering data, the resulting output was a comprehensive, highly illustrated design guide for Homes England and its partners. Model wording was included in consultancy briefs, and a compliance checklist was also submitted.
