BDP joins Laing O’Rourke’s Design Partner Framework
BDP has been appointed to Laing O’Rourke’s groundbreaking Design Partner Framework, an initiative designed to create closer, more collaborative relationships between design and construction teams.

The framework focuses on driving sustainability by embedding carbon-conscious decision-making into the earliest stages of project delivery – where the potential for impact is greatest.
Recognising the need for a unified approach, the Design Partner Framework establishes a consistent way of working through shared carbon data and common measurement systems for construction emissions, embodied carbon, and operational energy and water use. This innovative approach supports effective communication across disciplines and ensures that sustainability is a central focus throughout the value chain.

“Joining Laing O’Rourke’s Design Partner Framework is an important opportunity to create meaningful change in the built environment. Early-stage design decisions have the greatest potential to reduce carbon, and by working together through this framework, we can develop shared tools and processes that enhance collaboration and deliver more sustainable solutions. This partnership demonstrates our collective commitment to aligning long-term goals and setting new standards for the industry.”

Our involvement in the framework builds on its expertise in designing sustainable buildings and places. By focusing on clear communication and whole-life carbon considerations, the framework provides design certainty for clients and supports the delivery of impactful, low-carbon solutions.

“The Design Partner Framework represents a significant shift in how we work with our design partners. By developing a shared understanding of sustainability goals and embedding these into our processes, we’re transforming the way projects are designed and delivered. This collaborative approach strengthens our relationships and ensures that we continue to innovate for the benefit of our clients, our teams, and the wider environment.”

The Design Partner Framework reinforces the importance of collective action in reducing carbon emissions and creating a more sustainable built environment. It also demonstrates how aligned values and integrated expertise can deliver benefits across the supply chain and improve outcomes for clients and communities.
